DESCRIPTION
NJR Recruitment are working with a leading global packaging manufacturer to recruit an experienced Category Manager. Our client is an award-winning business with manufacturing facilities across Europe and South East Asia, supplying an impressive portfolio of well-known retail and foodservice brands.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a commercially driven Category Manager to join their dynamic Purchasing team. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a diverse product category, managing both existing supplier relationships and sourcing new suppliers globally to support business growth and customer requirements.
Reporting to the Head of Purchasing, you\'ll be supported by a team of Category Assistants and will play a key role in developing and delivering category strategies that drive sales, profitability and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement category strategies to drive sales growth and maximise profitability.
Create and deliver category plans aligned with wider business objectives.
Develop and manage an annual supplier tender programme.
Identify and deliver cost-saving initiatives across the purchasing function.
Plan for future category development in line with business requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while identifying and onboarding new global suppliers.
Organise supplier meetings and attend relevant trade shows.
Manage the supplier base to ensure optimum quality, cost and service.
Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, raw materials, production costs and distribution.
Work collaboratively with internal teams to drive product innovation and support future business growth.
Manage the full product lifecycle across your category.
Act as the subject matter expert for your category, supporting both internal stakeholders and customers.
Serve as the final escalation point for purchasing-related issues within your category.
About You
We\'re looking for an experienced purchasing professional who can demonstrate:
Previous experience managing a product category within a purchasing or procurement environment.
Experience within packaging, retail or FMCG would be highly advantageous.
A proven track record of delivering cost reductions and commercial improvements.
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
Experience developing and executing successful category strategies that have improved profitability, reduced spend or increased margins.
The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.
Outstanding communication and stakeholder management abilities.
